Annual Pioneer Service:
10am – 12 noon
St James’ Old Cathedral. West Melbourne, Reverend John Sugars, Vicar, invited all members of the La Trobe Society and their friends to this service.

 

 

Saturday – 3 October 2009
The Governor’s Arrival:
Cottage open 1 – 4pm
170th Anniversary of the arrival of Charles Joseph La Trobe in Melbourne. Re-enactment of La Trobe’s arrival on 3 October 1839.  Reading of proclamation and raising the flag, with the Oakleigh City Band providing a fanfare and the Newport Bush Orchestra providing music during the afternoon.

Restoration of the Grave of Charlotte Pellet ­ housekeeper to Charles and Sophie La Trobe:
2pm
Mrs Jennifer Bantow, President of the Geelong and Region Branch of the National Trust, invited all members of the La Trobe Society to a celebration at the graveside of Mme Pellet in Inverleigh Cemetery.

 

 

Sunday – 22 March 2009
La Trobe’s Birthday picnic:
5 – 7pm
Informal gathering at La Trobe’s Cottage. Guest speaker: Martin Purslow, Chief Executive Officer of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), on actions planned for La Trobe’s home and the formation of a Friends of La Trobe’s Cottage group.
